City of Toronto Extends Outdoor Pool Hours Amid Heat Warning

Toronto – In response to the Heat Warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the City of Toronto is extending the operating hours of ten outdoor pools to provide residents with additional opportunities to stay cool. This extension comes as part of the City’s comprehensive Heat Relief Strategy, designed to mitigate the effects of extreme heat on the community.

Extended Pool Hours

From today through Thursday, June 20, the following outdoor pools will remain open until 9 p.m., weather permitting:

  • Heron Park Community Centre
  • Kiwanis Outdoor Pool
  • Pine Point Park Outdoor Pool
  • Riverdale Park East
  • West Mall Outdoor Pool

Additionally, the following pools will be open until 10 p.m. tonight. Starting tomorrow, June 18, through Thursday, June 20, these pools will extend their hours until 11:45 p.m., weather permitting:

  • Alex Duff Memorial Pool
  • McGregor Park Outdoor Pool
  • North Toronto Memorial Community Centre
  • Parkway Forest Outdoor Pool
  • Sunnyside Gus Ryder Outdoor Pool

Early Openings and Splash Pads

The City opened 10 wading pools and 10 outdoor pools on June 14, ahead of the regular season start. All remaining City pools are set to open on Friday, June 28. In addition, splash pads across the city are now operational daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., offering another way for residents to cool down.

Heat Relief Strategy

The City’s Heat Relief Strategy, active from May 15 to September 30, includes the Heat Relief Network, street outreach, extended hours for public pools, and targeted public messaging. The Heat Relief Network comprises Cool Spaces such as libraries, community centres, civic centres, and select private and non-profit facilities. Residents can find an interactive map of these Cool Spaces at www.toronto.ca/CoolSpaces.
