Toronto Elections to Accept Candidate Nominations for Ward 15 By-Election
Toronto, ON – Starting Monday, July 22, Toronto Elections will begin accepting candidate nominations for the office of Councillor in Ward 15, Don Valley West. The nomination period will run from 8:30 a.m. on July 22 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 19. The by-election will take place on Monday, November 4.
Advance voting for Ward 15 is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Requirements for Running:
To run for Councillor, candidates must:
- File a nomination paper with an original signature.
- Provide proof of a qualifying address within Toronto.
- Pay a $100 nomination filing fee.
- Submit at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Toronto voters, with original signatures.
Nominations must be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office, located at 100 Queen St. W., first floor, Permit Alley. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays). On the last day of the nomination period, September 19, the office will accept nominations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Candidates cannot raise or spend any campaign money until they have filed their nomination papers. Detailed information about the nomination process is available on the Toronto Elections webpage.

As nominations are filed, a real-time list of candidates will be posted online. The final list of certified candidates will be available after the close of nominations on September 19.
Third Party Advertiser Registration:
From Monday, July 22 to Friday, November 1, individuals, corporations, or trade unions intending to spend money to promote, support, or oppose a candidate in the by-election must register as third party advertisers. Registrations can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays).
The City Clerk must certify the registration before any campaign activities can begin. Registered third party advertisers must identify themselves in advertisements and comply with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
