Toronto Revives #BeSunSafe Program to Promote Sun Safety

TORONTO – The City of Toronto, in collaboration with Toronto Public Health, the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund, and the Douglas Wright Foundation, is bringing back the #BeSunSafe program to enhance sun safety awareness and provide free sunscreen at select parks across Toronto.

This year’s initiative features 50 sunscreen dispensers located at Toronto’s waterfront and High Park, two dispensers on HTO to Go water trailers, and 150 canopy tents for #CampTO, #ParksPlayTO, and #SummerInTheSix. The sunscreen offered is SPF 30, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB), PABA-free, paraben-free, scent-free, and mineral-based.

Key sun safety tips include:

  • Apply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
  • Combine sunscreen use with other protective measures such as seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses.
  • Apply sunscreen to babies over six months old.

Since its inception in 2017, the #BeSunSafe program has dispensed over 1,000 liters of sunscreen and donated 150 canopy tents for shade at City camps.
