Smoke’s Poutinerie to Host Largest Poutine Festival in Canada at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square

Toronto – Smoke’s Poutinerie is preparing to make history with the largest poutine festival ever held in Canada. The inaugural Smoke-A-Palooza will transform Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square into a bustling celebration of food, music, and charity on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The event promises an exciting mix of high-energy entertainment and a heartwarming charitable mission.

One of the main attractions of the festival is the World Poutine Eating Championship (WPEC), which returns for its 15th year as the world’s largest poutine-eating competition and the second-largest professional eating contest globally. After a five-year break, the championship is back, sanctioned by Major League Eating (MLE), with a stellar lineup including top-ranked eaters such as #2 Patrick Bertoletti, recently victorious at Coney Island, #3 Geoffrey Esper, and Canada’s own #10 Darrien Thomas. The competition is set to be intense, with Joey “Jaws” Chestnut’s 2019 record of 28 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes still standing.

The Ryan Smolkin Memorial CEO Challenge will also feature prominently, bringing together Canadian business leaders for a spirited 2-minute poutine-eating contest. This challenge supports We Care, a charity dedicated to sending children with disabilities to fully accessible summer camps. The initiative has already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, and this year’s competition aims to contribute even more.

Adding to the festival’s appeal, attendees will enjoy 360 minutes of 80s Rock ‘n’ Roll with tribute performances from bands such as Dust N’ Bones (Guns N’ Roses Tribute), 80s Gone Wild, Sheer Heart Attack (Queen Tribute), and Destroyer Canada (KISS Tribute). The event will also feature daredevil acts, roaming entertainers, and numerous interactive experiences, including selfie stations and a DeLorean Time Machine. A beverage garden will offer refreshments, and of course, poutine will be served free of charge throughout the event.

Mark Cunningham, President & COO of Smoke’s Poutinerie, expressed enthusiasm about the event: “This is HUGE for us, an opportunity to take over the heart of Toronto to celebrate our Fans and to raise some serious cash for an incredible cause.”
