Exploring Ontario’s Rich Heritage: Doors Open Ontario 2024

Toronto – In a celebration of Ontario’s diverse history and cultural heritage, Doors Open Ontario 2024 has officially kicked off, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore a plethora of fascinating sites across the province. Organized by the Ontario Heritage Trust in partnership with local community organizations, this annual program offers free access to a wide range of historical, architectural, and natural landmarks, providing a unique opportunity to uncover the stories that have shaped Ontario’s identity.

From historical buildings adapted for modern use to awe-inspiring places of worship, stunning natural landscapes, and innovative feats of infrastructure, Doors Open Ontario showcases the richness and vibrancy of the province’s heritage. With hundreds of sites to explore and more being added to the roster each month, there’s no shortage of adventures to embark upon this spring through fall.

The program launched on April 27 in Guelph and will continue with 28 other communities opening their doors to the public on various dates throughout the season. Notable upcoming events include Oshawa on May 4, Toronto on May 25-26, Ottawa on June 1-2, and London on September 21-22, among others.

Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Michael Ford, expressed his support for the initiative, encouraging Ontarians to seize the opportunity to learn more about the province’s remarkable heritage. John Ecker, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Heritage Trust, highlighted the significance of Doors Open Ontario in offering free access to Ontario’s cultural treasures.
