Mississauga Honored with Governor General’s Medal in Architecture

Mississauga – The City of Mississauga is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture for the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Mattamy Sports Park. This prestigious award, presented by The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and Canada Council for the Arts, recognizes the building’s outstanding design and excellence.

The Governor General’s Medal in Architecture is a biennial award celebrating exceptional design in recently completed projects by Canadian architects. Mississauga is one of 12 recipients of this esteemed distinction in 2024.

Opened to the public in 2021, the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Mattamy Sports Park boasts a 75,000-square-foot community centre and a 57-acre sports park. This state-of-the-art facility offers a wide range of amenities, including:

  • A 25-metre, six-lane pool and therapeutic pool
  • A triple gymnasium
  • A teaching kitchen and multipurpose room
  • An Active Living Studio
  • Two lit artificial turf soccer fields, one with a seasonal dome
  • A playground
  • A spray pad
  • A skate park
  • A multi-purpose court
  • Outdoor fitness equipment
  • A large green space and walking trails
  • Year-round covered tennis and pickleball courts, expected to open later this year
