Ontario Announces Major Expansion of GO Train Service Across Greater Toronto Area

In a move set to revolutionize commuter travel across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the Ontario government has unveiled plans for the largest expansion of GO train service in over a decade. Premier Doug Ford, alongside Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, announced that more than 300 additional weekly trips will be added to the Milton, Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Kitchener, and Stouffville lines.

The expansion, which represents a 15% increase in weekly trips, is slated to commence on April 28, 2024. Key highlights of the initiative include doubling weekend train services to every 15 minutes in the afternoon and evening on the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines, as well as introducing new 30-minute weekday services on the Kitchener line during midday and evenings between Bramalea and Union Station.

Furthermore, evening train services will now be available seven days a week on the Stouffville line, with additional morning and afternoon rush hour trips to and from Union Station for commuters in Milton. Additionally, every second UP Express train will offer non-stop service between Union Station and Pearson Airport, providing a more convenient option for airport transfers.
