Theatre Passe Muraille Presents What Brings You In by Leslie Ting
A confessional concert experience blending music, therapy, and theatre runs October 17–25 in Toronto.
TORONTO – Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) continues its tradition of innovative programming this fall with What Brings You In, a new work by violinist and interdisciplinary artist Leslie Ting. Running October 17–25, 2025 at TPM’s Mainspace, the production invites audiences into an intimate, genre-defying performance that fuses experimental music, confessional storytelling, and therapeutic exploration.
Created in partnership between Leslie Ting Production and TPM, What Brings You In is based on Ting’s personal experiences and interview research in talk therapy, hypnotherapy, dreamwork, somatics, Reiki, and other healing practices. The piece asks a layered question: what brings us into shared performance spaces, and what brings us inward to discover our truest selves through sound?
A Listening-Centered Experience
Performed by Leslie Ting (violin) and Germaine Liu (percussion), the work shifts focus away from sight to emphasize listening as a transformative act. Developed with Blind and Low Vision artists, the performance seeks to redefine audience relationships by creating new ways of tuning in.
“This project grew out of my desire to have a new relationship with the audience,” Ting explained in the release. “It is an experiment in opening ourselves to a different kind of attention, to tuning in by exploring the high and low stakes of listening.”
Accessibility and Engagement
The production is designed with accessibility in mind, offering:
-
Blind-friendly performances with audio description (Oct. 19 in person, Oct. 22 online).
-
Mask-mandatory performance (Oct. 24).
-
Interactive online performances via a custom web app (Oct. 18 & Oct. 22), enabling audiences to experience the show through sound-based digital interactions.
Theatre Passe Muraille will also host a Red Circle Community Event on Oct. 19 at 11:30 a.m., featuring a mindful tea gathering led by artist and practitioner Helen Kong of Secret Teatime Studio. This free event complements the show’s themes of reflection and presence.
