Wendy Lisogar-Cocchia Appointed New Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
Ottawa, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the appointment of Wendy Lisogar-Cocchia as the new Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
Lisogar-Cocchia, a distinguished entrepreneur in Canada’s hospitality sector, is also a dedicated philanthropist and community leader. She has co-founded the Pacific Autism Family Network, which provides vital support to neurodivergent individuals and their families. Her achievements have earned her significant accolades, including the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and two honorary doctorates.
In his announcement, Prime Minister Trudeau commended Lisogar-Cocchia’s longstanding contributions to her community and the nation, highlighting her dedication and leadership.
“Ms. Lisogar-Cocchia has long been a champion for the people of her community, her province, and our country. I know she will continue to make a difference for British Columbians as Lieutenant Governor, and I wish her all the best in this new role,” said Prime Minister Trudeau.
Lisogar-Cocchia will succeed the Honourable Janet Austin, who has served as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia since 2018. The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to Austin for her years of service and commitment to the people of the province.
As Lieutenant Governor, Lisogar-Cocchia will serve as the Queen’s representative in British Columbia, carrying out ceremonial duties and promoting civic engagement across the province.
This appointment marks another milestone in Lisogar-Cocchia’s illustrious career, and her dedication to advocacy and leadership is expected to leave a lasting impact on the people of British Columbia.
