Victoria Mboko Claims First WTA Tour Win at Miami Open
MIAMI – Toronto’s Victoria Mboko made a memorable debut on the WTA 1000 stage, securing her first-ever main tour victory at the Miami Open on Wednesday. The 18-year-old Canadian battled through a tough three-set contest against Colombia’s Camila Osorio, emerging victorious 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in her first-round match.
Mboko, playing in just the second WTA Tour main draw of her career, showed impressive composure in a match filled with momentum swings. Over two hours and 34 minutes, she managed to win just one more point than Osorio but capitalized on her opportunities, converting eight of 18 break point chances while saving three of nine on her own serve.
Despite a nervous start that saw her fend off three break points in her opening service game, the young Canadian quickly settled in. She broke Osorio early and looked poised to take the opening set at 5-2, but the experienced Colombian fought back. After missing four set points, Mboko regrouped and secured the set on her fifth opportunity.

The second set was just as tight, with neither player able to establish control. A series of four consecutive service breaks left the match on even footing before Osorio found an extra gear late, breaking Mboko to love at 5-6 to force a decider.
Undeterred by the setback, Mboko wasted no time regaining control in the third set. She pressured Osorio’s serve early and broke to take a 3-1 lead. Although Osorio responded with a break of her own, the Canadian teen locked in, winning the final three games to clinch her first tour-level victory.
Mboko has been one of the standout performers on the ITF Tour in 2025, amassing a 27-1 record with five titles before making her breakthrough in Miami. Her next challenge is a formidable one—world No. 11 Paula Badosa awaits in the second round.
