Trudeau and Costa Discuss G7 Presidency Priorities and Global Crises

Outaouais, Quebec – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with António Costa, President of the European Council, to discuss Canada’s priorities as it prepares to assume the G7 Presidency in 2025. The conversation emphasized the importance of bolstering economic security, upholding the rules-based international order, and promoting adherence to international law in an increasingly complex global geopolitical landscape.

During the discussions, the leaders expressed their strong support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, urging all parties involved to continue constructive engagement to ensure the agreement’s full implementation. They also reaffirmed their commitment to an inclusive, Syrian-led political process as a pathway toward stability in the region.

The two leaders reiterated their unwavering backing for Ukraine in its ongoing defense against Russian aggression, highlighting the need for a just and sustainable peace in the war-torn nation.

The meeting further underscored Canada’s alignment with the European Union on key global issues, showcasing their shared commitment to tackling pressing challenges through multilateral cooperation.
