Factory Theatre Presents Dystopian Solo Show “I Don’t Even Miss You” by Tiny Bear Jaws
Toronto, ON – Factory Theatre is set to host the innovative multidisciplinary performance I Don’t Even Miss You by the acclaimed theatre company Tiny Bear Jaws. Running from October 31 to November 10, 2024, at the Factory Studio Theatre, this provocative solo show delves into themes of loneliness, resilience, and identity in a futuristic world devoid of human presence.
Written and performed by Elena Belyea, winner of the 2023 Betty Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical, the show is directed by Emma Tibaldo. Belyea’s portrayal of Basil, a non-binary computer programmer navigating life after the sudden disappearance of all humans, is complemented by music from Tori Morrison and the inventive use of live music, dance, and video elements.
The plot follows Basil (they/them) as they search for loved ones, create an AI assistant named Orchid, and rehearse a ’90s-inspired musical based on their life. As the story unfolds, they confront questions of gender, love, and connection in a world without people to witness their existence.
According to Factory Theatre, this is the second stop on Tiny Bear Jaws’ national tour and is part of the CrossCurrents Canada Series, which showcases innovative Canadian theatre through support from the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Exploring Gender, AI, and Accessibility
I Don’t Even Miss You tackles complex issues such as gender identity, artificial intelligence, and what it means to form relationships in a solitary world. The show features a dynamic caption design, created in collaboration with Deaf artist and consultant Connor Yuzwenko-Martin, making it accessible to Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and neurodivergent audience members.
Tiny Bear Jaws, founded in 2015 by Artistic Director Elena Belyea and Executive Director Tori Morrison, has gained a reputation for its boundary-pushing work. With a focus on queer, femme-led productions, the company has previously staged thought-provoking pieces such as Miss Katelyn’s Grade Threes Prepare for the Inevitable and Cleave. Their latest project, I Don’t Even Miss You, continues their commitment to exploring the unique storytelling possibilities of live theatre.
