Toronto Set to Ring in 2025 with Waterfront Fireworks, Performances, and Free Transit
TORONTO – Toronto residents and visitors are invited to ring in the new year at the City of Toronto’s annual New Year’s Eve celebrations, returning to the waterfront on December 31, 2024. Featuring high-altitude fireworks, live music, and pop-up performances, the event promises to be one of Canada’s most memorable celebrations.
At midnight, a dazzling 10-minute fireworks display synchronized to music will light up Toronto’s inner harbour. The display, one of the largest in Canada, can be enjoyed from multiple waterfront viewing locations, including Toronto Music Garden, Sherbourne Common, Sugar Beach Park, and Harbourfront Centre. For those celebrating at home, the show will be livestreamed on the City’s CultureTO YouTube channel.
Pop-Up Performances Across the Waterfront
Festivities begin at 10 p.m., with performances at Sherbourne Common and Toronto Music Garden. Highlights include DJ sets by Traxx & Feels collective at Bathurst Quay Common and participatory dance sessions at Sherbourne Common, co-produced with The Dance Together Festival. INCIRQUE performers will roam the waterfront, adding a touch of magic with their interactive acts, while short films curated by the National Film Board of Canada will be projected onto the Canada Malting Silos, visible from Toronto Music Garden.
The evening culminates with a countdown at 11:45 p.m., led by Mayor Olivia Chow and drag entertainer Sanjina DaBish Queen.
Travel and Accessibility
To accommodate attendees, free transit will be available on the TTC, GO Transit, and UP Express from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 8 a.m. on January 1. TTC subway services will operate until 3 a.m., and overnight buses and streetcars will run until 8 a.m. TTC riders are advised to consider alternate stations such as King, Queen, and Osgoode to avoid crowds at Union Station after midnight.
Several road closures will also be in effect, including portions of Queens Quay West, Bay Street, and York Street from 10 p.m. on December 31 to 1 a.m. on January 1.
A Community Celebration
Supported by the Waterfront BIA and media partners Toronto Star and Now Toronto, the event highlights the city’s vibrant spirit and creativity.
“New Year’s Eve is a time to come together as a community and celebrate the hope and possibilities of the year ahead,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “Whether you’re joining us in person at the waterfront or watching from home, I invite everyone to experience the magic of this unforgettable night as we welcome 2025 together.”
