Toronto Sceptres Team Up with Daily Bread Food Bank to Tackle Hunger in Toronto
Hockey stars Claire Dalton and Raygan Kirk to volunteer on October 7
Toronto – As the rising cost of living drives more families to seek support from food banks, the Toronto Sceptres are stepping off the ice to lend a helping hand. On Tuesday, October 7, members of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team will volunteer at Daily Bread Food Bank in Etobicoke, supporting efforts to ensure that thousands of Torontonians facing food insecurity receive the help they need.
The volunteer shift will see Sceptres forward Claire Dalton and goaltender Raygan Kirk join Daily Bread’s dedicated team to sort and pack donations, preparing them for distribution across the city. Daily Bread Food Bank operates out of its 108,000 sq. ft. distribution hub on New Toronto Street and supports 205 programs across Toronto.
“Volunteers are the backbone of Daily Bread,” the organization noted, highlighting that the work of community members—and now the Sceptres—ensures donations reach families who rely on food banks in times of need.
For the Sceptres, who are part of the PWHL’s fast-growing women’s hockey movement, the effort underscores the team’s commitment to building stronger communities both on and off the ice. Founded in 2023, the PWHL has quickly gained international attention, breaking multiple attendance records and setting a global record for women’s hockey game attendance.
The October 7 event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with media invited to capture the players in action and conduct interviews.
