Toronto park washrooms and water fountains reopening as summer recreation season begins
TORONTO — The City of Toronto is preparing parks and recreation spaces for the warmer months with the reopening of seasonal washrooms, water fountains and other outdoor amenities across the city.
City crews are currently activating more than 1,000 water assets in parks, including public washrooms, drinking fountains and bottle-filling stations, as part of the annual seasonal rollout.
Seasonal Amenities Returning Across Toronto
The City says the reopening process will continue throughout May and into June, with additional facilities such as splash pads, pools and beaches opening in phases.
Key dates include:
- May 4: Seasonal park washrooms open citywide, except where repairs or capital upgrades are underway
- May 16: More than 140 splash and spray pads expected to open
- May 25: Remaining standalone water fountains, bottle-filling stations and dog fountains open
- June 6: Lifeguard supervision begins at 10 Toronto beaches
- June 13: Early opening of 15 outdoor pools and wading pools
- June 20: All outdoor pools begin partial schedules
- June 26: Full outdoor pool and wading pool schedules begin
Officials say all drinking fountains are tested before activation to ensure the water is safe for public use.

Major Investments in Public Washrooms
The City also highlighted recent investments aimed at improving accessibility and year-round access to park facilities.
Toronto has invested $132 million to upgrade 125 park washrooms, converting many from seasonal to year-round operations. An additional 16 new public washrooms have also been added in locations including:
- Allan Gardens
- Biidaasige Park
- Centennial Park
Residents can locate nearby facilities using the City’s online washroom map.
Preparing for a Busy Summer Season
Mayor Olivia Chow said reopening these amenities helps residents make fuller use of parks and public spaces throughout the summer.
“The weather is getting warmer, and I can’t wait to spend more time enjoying our beautiful parks,” Chow said in a statement. “Having these facilities open means you can pack a picnic, lose track of time, and never have to cut the day short.”
Councillor Paula Fletcher, Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee, added that access to washrooms and water stations improves the overall park experience and accessibility for residents.
Summer Recreation Season Begins
The reopening of park infrastructure comes as Toronto prepares for another busy summer season, with parks, splash pads, beaches and pools expected to see heavy use across the city.
City officials encourage residents to check opening schedules online before visiting facilities.
