Toronto Reopens North York Sexual Health Clinic Following Renovations and Accessibility Upgrades

Toronto North York Sexual Health Clinic offers free and confidential sexual health services

TORONTO — Toronto Public Health (TPH) has officially reopened its North York Sexual Health Clinic following renovations aimed at improving accessibility, comfort and service delivery for residents seeking sexual health care in the city.

The clinic, formerly known as the Talk Shop Clinic, is located at 5110 Yonge St. and provides free and confidential sexual health services in one of Toronto’s most densely populated and diverse communities.

City officials say the reopening restores an important public health resource after the clinic’s temporary closure for modernization work.

Accessibility and Modernization Improvements

According to Toronto Public Health, renovations at the North York Sexual Health Clinic included:

  • A fully wheelchair-accessible examination room
  • An accessible washroom
  • Updated clinic facilities designed to create a more welcoming environment for clients

The City says the upgrades are intended to improve inclusive access to sexual health care and support the delivery of high-quality services.

Dr. Michelle Murti, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, said the clinic plays an important role in supporting community health.

“Reopening the North York Sexual Health Clinic provides residents with access to free, confidential, stigma-free care close to home,” Murti said in a statement.

She noted that sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections account for approximately 80 per cent of all diseases of public health significance reported to Toronto Public Health.

“This highlights the ongoing need for accessible, community-based sexual health services across the city,” Murti added.

Services Offered at Toronto Sexual Health Clinics

Toronto Public Health sexual health clinics offer a range of judgement-free services, including:

  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV
  • Birth control counselling and low-cost contraception
  • Pregnancy testing and referrals
  • Vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, HPV and mpox
  • Free condoms and lubricant distribution

TPH operates public sexual health clinics at four locations across Toronto:

  • Bloor West — 2340 Dundas St. W.
  • Scarborough — 160 Borough Dr.
  • Jane-St. Clair — 662 Jane St.
  • North York — 5110 Yonge St.

Community Health and Access to Care

Councillor Chris Moise, Chair of the Toronto Board of Health, said access to sexual health care remains an essential part of public health infrastructure.

“Access to sexual health services is essential to a healthier city,” Moise said. “This reopening strengthens Toronto’s ability to support residents with free, confidential care when and where they need it.”

Councillor Lily Cheng added that the clinic previously served thousands of North York residents before its closure.

“I’m pleased to see this clinic reopen in North York,” Cheng said. “Its return will help ensure you can once again access the care you need in a welcoming and inclusive environment.”
