Toronto Marlies Eliminated in First Round of Calder Cup Playoffs

Cleveland Monsters sweep series with double-overtime victory; Marlies conclude 2024–25 season

TORONTO — The Toronto Marlies’ 2024–25 season came to an end on April 26, as they were swept by the Cleveland Monsters in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. The decisive Game 2 at Coca-Cola Coliseum concluded with a 4–3 double-overtime loss, marking the Marlies’ second consecutive first-round exit.

Toronto initially took the lead in Game 2, but Cleveland responded with three goals in the second period. The Marlies managed to tie the game in the third period, forcing overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Monsters secured the win with a goal at 19:05 of the second overtime, clinching the series 2–0.

The Marlies concluded the regular season with a 37–23–4–8 record, finishing fourth in the North Division. This marked their 14th playoff appearance in franchise history.

Forward Alex Steeves was a standout performer during the season, earning a spot on the AHL Second All-Star Team. He recorded 61 points (36 goals, 25 assists) in 58 games, tying the franchise’s single-season goal record.

As the Marlies enter the offseason, the organization will look to build upon this year’s experiences and prepare for the 2025–26 campaign.
