Toronto Invites Residents to Celebrate Labour Day Long Weekend with Citywide Activities

TORONTO — The City of Toronto has released its lineup of activities and services for the Labour Day long weekend (August 30–September 1, 2025), offering residents and visitors dozens of ways to enjoy the last holiday weekend of the summer. From swimming and outdoor recreation to cultural programming and markets, the City is encouraging residents to make the most of the season’s final days.


Beaches, Pools, and Water Play

  • Ten supervised beaches will be open with lifeguards on duty daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Outdoor pools close for the season on Sunday, August 31 at 4 p.m., though some extended-season pools will remain open into September.

  • Wading pools close August 31, while splash pads remain open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Dog-Only Swim: On Sunday, August 31, select outdoor pools will host special free dog swim sessions from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. before closing for the season. Donations of dog treats and toys for Toronto Animal Services will be accepted.


Toronto Island Park and Ferries

Toronto Island Park remains a top destination. Visitors are encouraged to:

  • Buy ferry tickets online in advance to skip lines.

  • Travel outside peak times (10:30 a.m.–2 p.m. heading to the island; 5:30–9 p.m. returning).

City Attractions and Facilities

  • Community centres and indoor pools: Open Saturday and Sunday; closed Monday.

  • Conservatories: Allan Gardens and Centennial Park Conservatories open daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Cultural centres: Limited weekend hours, closed Monday.

  • Toronto History Museums: Open Aug. 30–31, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Fort York will open Monday, Sept. 1. Admission is free.

  • Municipal golf courses: Open all weekend; advance booking recommended.

  • Public tennis and pickleball courts: Available citywide, with shared half-hour play times if others are waiting.

  • High Park Animal Display: Open daily, 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Roads in High Park are closed to vehicles on weekends and holidays.

  • Riverdale Farm: Open daily, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.


Markets and Festivals

  • St. Lawrence Market:

    • Saturday, Aug. 30: 7 a.m.–5 p.m. (Farmers’ Market: 5 a.m.–3 p.m.)

    • Sunday, Aug. 31: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

    • Monday, Sept. 1: Closed

On Sunday, Aug. 31, Taste of the Caribbean Festival takes over Market Street with food, crafts, and live music (10 a.m.–5 p.m.).


Additional Services

  • Toronto Zoo: Open daily, 9:30 a.m.–7 p.m.

  • Toronto Public Library: All branches closed Aug. 31–Sept. 1. Digital services remain available at tpl.ca/downloads.

  • TTC: Operating on a Holiday schedule Monday, Sept. 1.

  • Fireworks: Labour Day is not a permitted fireworks day. Fireworks are only allowed with a permit on private property and never in public parks or beaches.

  • Waste Drop-Off Depots: Closed Sept. 1 for residential waste, recycling, yard waste, and hazardous materials.


Safety Reminders

The City urges residents to follow safe swimming practices, stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and supervise children near water. Fireworks safety remains a priority, with misuse or illegal sale reportable to 311.
