City of Toronto launches 2025 Holiday Giving Campaign to support communities throughout the winter season

DonateTO highlights simple ways residents can help people, pets, and neighbourhoods across the city

TORONTO — The City of Toronto has officially launched its 2025 Holiday Giving Campaign, inviting residents, businesses, and community organizations to make a difference this winter by supporting vital programs that strengthen communities citywide.

Running through January 9, 2026, the campaign encourages Torontonians to give back in meaningful ways, with opportunities to help people experiencing homelessness, seniors, children and youth, refugees and newcomers, and animals in need.

The campaign coincides with National Housing Day on November 22, underscoring the growing need for community support as winter temperatures drop and demand for social services increases.

Connecting residents with causes that matter

The City’s DonateTO platform serves as a direct bridge between residents and the charitable organizations delivering essential frontline services. While the City facilitates the donation process, contributions go directly to nonprofits, charities, and community partners.

Residents can contribute in several ways, including:

  • Donating warm clothing, winter boots, and hygiene supplies for people experiencing homelessness

  • Providing toys and holiday gifts for children and youth

  • Supporting long-term care residents, including isolated seniors

  • Assisting refugee claimants and newcomers

  • Helping care for animals awaiting adoption

  • Supporting local emergency response programs and neighbourhood-based initiatives

Since DonateTO launched in 2015, Torontonians have contributed more than $13.74 million in tax-receipted donations of $20 or more — a testament to the city’s generosity and commitment to supporting vulnerable residents.

A call to community action

The City notes that giving does not need to be complicated to have impact. Even small contributions help expand services during the holidays, one of the busiest times of year for community organizations.

A city built on generosity

Toronto’s Holiday Giving Campaign has grown into a tradition that reflects the city’s identity as a compassionate, inclusive, and community-focused place. As the holiday season begins, City officials encourage everyone who can to take part.
