Toronto Fire Services Welcomes 97 New Firefighters to the Frontlines
Toronto, ON – Toronto Fire Services (TFS) marked a significant milestone today as 97 new Operations Firefighters were officially welcomed into service following their graduation from an intensive 18-week training program. The ceremony, held at Toronto Fire Services Headquarters, was attended by Interim Fire Chief Larry Cocco and other distinguished guests.
“Today we honour the dedication, hard work, and perseverance of our newest Operations Firefighter recruits,” said Chief Cocco. “Their training has prepared them not only to face the challenges ahead, but to uphold our values of courage, compassion, and service. On behalf of Toronto Fire Services, I am proud to welcome them into our ranks.”

The new recruits will be part of Toronto’s extensive emergency response operations, which include firefighting, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and more. With their completion of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)-certified training, the graduates also earned qualifications as Fire Prevention Inspectors and Public Educators. These qualifications will help TFS increase the number of Ontario Fire Code inspections carried out across the city, improving fire protection and safety standards for all residents.
Toronto Fire Services is the largest fire service in Canada and the city’s sole all-hazards emergency response organization. As the largest city in North America with a fire service accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), Toronto continues to lead the way in fire protection and public safety services.
“We are committed to providing world-class fire protection services to the residents, visitors, and businesses of Toronto,” Chief Cocco added.
The addition of these new firefighters strengthens TFS’s ability to respond to emergencies and enhance public safety, marking a crucial step forward as the city continues to grow and evolve.
