Toronto FC Falls to Chicago Fire 2-1, Remains Winless in 2025 MLS Season

TORONTO – Toronto FC continues to search for its first win of the season after falling 2-1 to the Chicago Fire on Saturday night at BMO Field. Despite an early lead from Deandre Kerr, Toronto was unable to hold off the visitors, who responded with two unanswered goals.

Kerr opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing off a well-executed play assisted by Federico Bernardeschi and Jonathan Osorio. The goal marked Kerr’s first of the campaign, while Bernardeschi and Osorio both recorded their second assists of the season.

Chicago equalized in the 30th minute when defender Andrew Gutman capitalized on a pass from rookie midfielder Jonathan Bamba, netting his second goal of the season and the 13th of his MLS career. Bamba, who has been a key playmaker for Chicago, notched his third assist in just four matches.

The Fire took the lead just before halftime, as Hugo Cuypers found the back of the net in the 44th minute off a pass from rookie defender Leonardo Barroso. The goal, Cuypers’ fourth of the season, proved to be the game-winner. The assist was Barroso’s first in MLS.

Toronto FC pressed for an equalizer in the second half but was unable to break through Chicago’s defense. Goalkeeper Chris Brady made one save to secure the win for the Fire, who improved their all-time record against Toronto to 13-14-13. TFC’s Sean Johnson finished the match with two saves.

With the loss, Toronto FC drops to 0-3-1 on the season. The team now shifts focus to its upcoming road match against the defending Eastern Conference champion New York Red Bulls on Saturday, where they will look to secure their first victory of the season.
