Toronto FC Ends Skid with Gritty Scoreless Draw Against Whitecaps at BMO Field
TORONTO – Toronto FC halted their four-game losing streak with a resilient 0-0 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.
The match saw Toronto (0-4-2) display a scrappy performance against a Vancouver side (4-1-1) that had entered the game leading the Western Conference with ten goals scored. Despite Vancouver’s attacking prowess, Toronto’s defense, which had previously conceded a league-high 12 goals, managed to keep a clean sheet.
Toronto’s goalkeeper, Sean Johnson, was pivotal in maintaining the deadlock, notably making a crucial save in the 88th minute to deny Ranko Veselinović’s effort from a corner. Earlier in the match, defender Raoul Petretta cleared a Brian White header off the goal line following a Sebastian Berhalter corner in the 11th minute, showcasing Toronto’s defensive determination.

The game was not without its challenges for Toronto, as they were forced into early second-half substitutions due to injuries. Both Henry Wingo and Deandre Kerr left the field in the 53rd minute, making way for Kosi Thompson and Ola Brynhildsen, respectively.
Toronto was missing Richie Laryea, Kevin Long, and Matty Longstaff due to injuries, while Vancouver was without injured captain Ryan Gauld and defenders Sam Adekugbe and Bjorn Inge Utvik.
The match also marked a milestone for Toronto’s Sigurd Rosted, who made his 50th Major League Soccer appearance.
Toronto FC will look to build on this performance as they head to Fort Lauderdale to face Inter Miami CF at Chase Stadium on April 6.
