Toronto Fire Services Rolls Out First Two Electric Pumper Trucks
TORONTO – Toronto is charging ahead with clean tech innovation. The City of Toronto officially unveiled its first two electric pumper trucks this week, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of its emergency response fleet. The vehicles will be stationed at Fire Stations 115 and 116 and are expected to be in full service by Q3 2025.
Mayor Olivia Chow, Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie, Councillor Shelley Carroll, and Fire Chief Jim Jessop were on hand to celebrate the debut of the new zero-emission trucks, which deliver full firefighting capabilities while producing no tailpipe emissions.
“Toronto is setting a high bar in emergency response combined with sustainability and innovation,” said Mayor Chow. “These new electric pumpers will go a long way in serving Torontonians.”

Key Features Include:
-
Fully electric drivetrain and pump system
-
Lower noise output
-
Extended operational range
-
Zero tailpipe emissions
-
Deployment at Stations 115 and 116
Chief Jessop noted the importance of maintaining reliability while advancing technology:
“These trucks maintain the power and resilience Toronto Fire crews expect—while helping us meet our environmental goals.”
🌱 Part of a Greener City Fleet
The City has committed to net-zero operations across all fleets by 2040. Currently, 455+ electric and hybrid vehicles operate within Toronto’s municipal fleet. Fire Services’ adoption of electric pumpers aligns with the Sustainable City of Toronto Fleets Plan, aiming to reduce emissions from high-use service vehicles.
