City of Toronto Launches 2025 Employment Survey to Track Business and Job Trends
TORONTO – The City of Toronto has officially launched the 43rd annual Toronto Employment Survey, a key economic data-gathering effort aimed at capturing detailed information about business activity and employment trends across the city. Running from now until Friday, August 29, the survey will see City staff visit more than 73,000 businesses in-person.
The long-running survey, first launched in 1983, remains an essential planning tool for the City, supporting decision-making related to economic development, infrastructure, transit, water services, and social supports. The results are compiled into the Toronto Employment Bulletin, which guides both public and private investment decisions.
“For over four decades, this survey has provided the insights we need to understand Toronto’s dynamic economy and support our city’s continued growth and resilience,” said City officials in a release.
💼 New Focus on Trade Impacts
New for 2025, the survey includes a question designed to gauge the impact of international trade disruptions, such as tariffs, on local businesses. Companies in affected sectors may also receive a postcard directing them to a supplementary survey and information about City support services.
📋 How Businesses Can Participate
City surveyors will be identifiable by City of Toronto badges and blue “City Planning” polo shirts. Participation is voluntary, and businesses have the option to:
-
Respond in person during the surveyor’s visit
-
Schedule a call back
-
Complete the survey online
All responses are kept confidential and will only be shared in aggregate form to highlight citywide and neighbourhood employment trends.
