Theatre Passe Muraille Unveils Bold Winter/Spring 2025 Season
Toronto, ON — Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) has announced a groundbreaking Winter/Spring 2025 season, showcasing productions that push boundaries and celebrate diversity. With a lineup featuring innovative creators and immersive storytelling, TPM invites audiences to engage with works that challenge societal norms and inspire transformation.
Highlights of the season include Vivian Chong’s Blind Dates, Landon Krentz’s ASL-focused adaptation of The Little Prince, and the #BeyondTO Festival, which features productions such as Cispersonnages en quête d’auteurice and A Taste of Hong Kong.
A Season of Diverse and Provocative Theatre
Kicking off the season is Blind Dates (Feb. 13 – Mar. 9, 2025), a heartfelt and humorous solo show by Vivian Chong. Combining her talents as a writer, triathlete, and composer, Chong shares her journey through love and self-discovery. Directed by TPM Artistic Director Marjorie Chan, the 70-minute production also offers blind-friendly accessibility and a relaxed environment.
In April, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic tale comes to life in The Little Prince: A Physical Theatre Adaptation (Apr. 2–19, 2025). Directed by Suchiththa Wickremesooriya and starring Deaf artist Landon Krentz, this reimagining uses American Sign Language (ASL), Visual Vernacular (VV), and vertical dance to deliver a universal message of connection and belonging.
The season crescendos with the annual #BeyondTO Festival (Apr. 23 – May 17, 2025), celebrating stories beyond Toronto. The festival opens with Cispersonnages en quête d’auteurice (Apr. 23–26), a French-language production inspired by Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author, which explores identity and artistic freedom with English surtitles. The festival closes with A Taste of Hong Kong (May 11–17, 2025), an immersive multisensory experience combining food and storytelling about Hong Kong’s resilience.
Engaging Community Initiatives
TPM’s community programming continues to foster dialogue and connection with book clubs, panels, and workshops inspired by the productions. As part of Toronto’s Doors Open event in May 2025, TPM will host performances and sing-alongs with The Epic Choir, a group of trans, non-binary, and gender-queer singers.
Artistic leaders Marjorie Chan, Indrit Kasapi, and Michelle Knight emphasize the season’s focus on challenging perceptions. “This season isn’t just about telling stories—it’s about questioning them,” they shared in a statement. “We invite audiences to step out of their comfort zones and imagine a future that celebrates difference and rejects sameness.”
