Sukhinder Singh Cassidy Joins Star-Powered Ownership Group of Toronto Tempo WNBA Franchise
TORONTO – Canadian tech leader and trailblazing entrepreneur Sukhinder Singh Cassidy is the latest high-profile addition to the ownership group behind Toronto Tempo, Canada’s first WNBA franchise. The announcement was made Tuesday, positioning Singh Cassidy alongside fellow owners Serena Williams and Larry Tanenbaum in what is quickly becoming one of the most influential ownership teams in professional women’s sports.
A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Singh Cassidy brings more than two decades of executive experience at top global tech firms including Google, Amazon, and StubHub. She currently serves as CEO of accounting software platform Xero and is also the founder of theBoardlist, an initiative focused on diversifying corporate boardrooms.
“Not only has she made a lifelong commitment to creating opportunities for women to realize their full potential — but she’s spent her entire career building world-class fan experiences and iconic digital franchises,” said Teresa Resch, President of the Toronto Tempo.
Singh Cassidy called the move “the culmination of both my personal passions and my professional experiences,” noting her belief in the transformative power of investing in women’s sports.
The Toronto Tempo was formally announced by the WNBA in May 2024 as the league’s 14th franchise and first expansion team outside the United States. Backed by Tanenbaum’s Kilmer Sports Ventures, the team will debut in the 2026 season and play its home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum. In a unique twist, the Tempo also plans to host regular-season games in other Canadian cities to expand the league’s footprint.
With Serena Williams joining the group earlier this year and founding partnerships already secured with CIBC and Sephora Canada, the team has quickly emerged as a cultural and commercial force ahead of its inaugural season.
Season ticket waitlist registration and team merchandise are now available at tempo.wnba.com.
