Steelheads Even Series With 3-1 Win Over Generals in Game 2

OSHAWA – The Brampton Steelheads evened their first-round playoff series at 1-1 with a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Oshawa Generals on Sunday night at Tribute Communities Centre.

Led by goaltender Jack Ivankovic’s standout 46-save performance, Brampton silenced the Oshawa offence until late in the third period. Ivankovic was named first star of the game as he withstood relentless pressure, particularly in the second and third frames when the Generals outshot the Steelheads 35-16.

Luke Misa opened the scoring for Brampton late in the first period, burying a feed from Konnor Smith and Mason Zebeski at 19:11. Carson Rehkopf added to the lead in the second with a power move and finish off a setup from Misa and Finn Harding.

Porter Martone sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 19:32 of the third after Oshawa had pulled netminder Jacob Oster for an extra attacker. The Generals’ lone goal came just under two minutes earlier when Colby Barlow snapped one past Ivankovic at 17:33, assisted by Luca Marrelli and Calum Ritchie.

Despite three power play opportunities, Oshawa was unable to capitalize with the man advantage, going 0-for-3. Brampton had one power play chance but also came up empty.

The game was a physical affair, highlighted by a first-period fight between Brampton’s Konnor Smith and Oshawa’s Noah Powell. Penalty minutes were relatively balanced, with Brampton taking six infractions totaling 15 minutes, and Oshawa recording 11 minutes on four calls.

Misa, who notched a goal and an assist, was named the second star, while Oshawa’s Andrew Gibson was recognized as the game’s third star for his defensive play.

With the win, the Steelheads shift the momentum heading into Game 3 on home ice. Puck drop is set for later this week at the CAA Centre in Brampton.
