Steelheads Add Depth to Defense with Three Signings
BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Steelheads bolstered their blue line on Friday, announcing that Jared Harding, Alex Stephen, and Graeme MacCauley have signed OHL Scholarship and Development Agreements with the club.
The trio contributed immediately, each taking the ice during Brampton’s thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Niagara IceDogs on Friday night.
Jared Harding
Originally selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the seventh round (#128 overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, Harding is a 5’10” smooth-skating defenceman who has already made five OHL appearances this season. Although still awaiting his first OHL point, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens product demonstrated his offensive potential with eight points (3G, 5A) in 22 games in the OJHL earlier this season.
Alex Stephen
Drafted in the tenth round (#182 overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection by the North Bay Battalion, Stephen brings size and experience to the Steelheads’ roster. The 6’3” defenceman has yet to make his OHL debut but has shone in the OJHL, notching an impressive 32 points (6G, 26A) in 27 games this season with the Burlington Cougars.
Graeme MacCauley
MacCauley, a first-round pick (#10 overall) by the Barrie Colts in the 2022 OHL U18 Priority Selection, has also yet to play in the OHL. The 6’0” defenceman captained the Milton Menace in the OJHL this season, tallying 18 points (4G, 14A) across 24 games. His leadership skills and strong two-way play have earned him recognition as a promising addition to Brampton’s lineup.
These signings are expected to provide valuable depth and skill to the Steelheads as the team navigates the rigorous OHL season. Fans can look forward to watching these players develop and contribute to the team’s ongoing efforts to compete in the highly competitive Central Division.
