🇨🇦 Denis Shapovalov Wins Los Cabos Title, Climbs Back Into ATP Top 30

LOS CABOS, Mexico — Canadian tennis star Denis Shapovalov is officially back in form after capturing the 2025 Los Cabos Open title with a dominant straight-sets victory over American Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6–4, 6–2. The win marks Shapovalov’s second title of the year and fourth career ATP singles title.

The 26-year-old didn’t drop a single set all week in Mexico and has now climbed five spots to No. 28 in the ATP rankings, his highest placement since 2022. With confidence building and hard courts ahead, Shapovalov has re-established himself as a contender heading into the North American summer swing.

A Breakthrough Season in 2025

Earlier this year, Shapovalov claimed the biggest title of his career at the Dallas Open, defeating three top‑10 opponents — including Casper Ruud in the final. That momentum carried through to Los Cabos, where he overpowered the field and defeated Adam Walton and Kovacevic with ease.

Grass Court Setback

Not all has been smooth for the Canadian star. During the grass-court season, he suffered a first-round loss to Arthur Rinderknech at the Stuttgart Open (6–4, 2–6, 6–0), briefly halting his momentum. But his response on hard courts has shown growth in consistency — long a challenge for the explosive shotmaker.

What’s Next

Shapovalov now turns his attention to the Toronto Masters in early August, where he’ll be a hometown favourite, followed by Cincinnati and the US Open later in the month. With two titles already in 2025, expectations are high for a strong finish to the season.
