Shake Shack Canada Teams Up with MIMI Chinese for Exclusive Toronto-Only Menu Collaboration

TORONTO — Shake Shack Canada is bringing bold Chinese flavours to its Toronto locations this May, teaming up with Michelin-recognized restaurant MIMI Chinese for a two-week-only culinary experience inspired by the city’s rich multicultural food scene.

From May 13 to May 26, Shake Shack fans can sample three exclusive menu items created in collaboration with MIMI Chinese chefs David Schwartz and Braden Chong. The limited-time offerings will be available at Shake Shack’s three Toronto locations—Yonge & Dundas, Union Station, and Yorkdale Shopping Centre—as well as for delivery through SkipTheDishes.

The collaboration is more than just a flavour experiment. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Fort York Food Bank, supporting Torontonians experiencing food insecurity.

“We’re delighted to partner with MIMI Chinese to launch our first ever chef collaboration in Canada,” said Billy Richmond, Business Director of Shake Shack Canada, in a statement. “It’s a celebration of Toronto’s exceptional culinary talent and our shared focus on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.”

The one-of-a-kind menu features three original creations:

  • Málà Chicken Sandwich: A nod to Sichuan cuisine’s iconic La Zi Ji, this crispy fried chicken sandwich layers house-made chili oil, charred scallion relish, green chili mayo, kosher pickles, and lettuce for a fiery bite.

  • Shaokao Fries: Inspired by Chinese street BBQ, these seasoned crinkle-cut fries come dusted with cumin, chili, and Sichuan peppercorn, served with green chili mayo.

  • Black Sesame Coconut Shake: A frozen take on traditional Chinese dessert soups, this shake blends black sesame paste with vanilla custard for a rich, nutty finish.

The collaboration spotlights MIMI Chinese’s distinctive approach to modern Chinese cuisine. Led by Schwartz and Chong, the restaurant has earned consecutive nods in the Toronto Michelin Guide and is widely regarded for its elegant reinterpretations of dishes from regions like Sichuan, Guangdong, and Hong Kong.

“This partnership with Shake Shack lets us share these bold, regional Chinese flavours with a broader audience,” said Schwartz, who also leads sister restaurant Sunnys Chinese. Chef Chong added that the menu reflects the dynamic evolution of Chinese cuisine in today’s global context.

Founded in 2023, Shake Shack Canada is a joint venture between Toronto’s Osmington Inc. and Harlo Entertainment Inc., and has quickly made its mark with three downtown locations. This marks the brand’s first chef collaboration in the country, signaling more limited-edition drops and partnerships to come.

With its blend of comfort food and culinary artistry, the Shake Shack x MIMI Chinese menu offers a delicious way to experience Toronto’s diverse food identity—while also giving back to the community.
