SECOND CUP CAFÉ CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF CANADIAN COFFEE CULTURE
New birthday-inspired drinks and exclusive anniversary merchandise honour five decades of community connection
MONTREAL — One of Canada’s most beloved coffeehouse brands, Second Cup Café, is celebrating a remarkable milestone — its 50th anniversary. From its humble beginnings in 1975 on King Street in downtown Toronto to a nationwide presence, Second Cup has been a cornerstone of Canadian coffee culture, uniting communities through shared moments over a cup of coffee.
To mark this golden occasion, the café chain is inviting Canadians to “raise a cup” with a lineup of birthday cake–inspired beverages and a limited-edition 50th anniversary merchandise collection available at participating locations nationwide.
Celebrating Five Decades of Coffee and Connection
“For 50 years, Second Cup has been part of the rhythm of daily life in Canada,” said Peter Mammas, President and CEO of Foodtastic, the Canadian foodservice company that acquired Second Cup in 2021. “Second Cup is a place where people meet, share ideas, and enjoy the large and small special moments of everyday life over coffee. With this milestone, we wanted to give guests something fun and nostalgic so they can raise a cup with us and be part of the celebration.”
The celebratory menu includes three new limited-time drinks:
- Birthday Cake FroCho – A creamy frozen blend of white hot chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, milk, and ice, topped with whipped cream and colourful sprinkles.
- Birthday Cake Latte – A warm, comforting espresso-based drink with steamed milk and rich vanilla.
- Iced Birthday Cake Latte – A festive chilled version of the classic latte made with bold espresso, cold milk, and vanilla sweetness.
A Brand Steeped in Canadian Identity
“Second Cup isn’t just a coffee brand — it’s part of Canada’s cultural fabric,” said Sam Wadera, Vice President, Brand, Second Cup Café. “From its beginnings in 1975 to today, it has a proud legacy of quality coffee, pastries, and welcoming spaces. As someone who grew up with the brand, I’m honoured to help contribute to its future so it continues to be a brand Canadians can call their own for decades to come.”
In addition to the birthday beverages, Second Cup has launched a special 50th anniversary merchandise line featuring gold-accented mugs, stainless steel tumblers, reusable cold cups, and retro-style tote bags that pay tribute to the brand’s roots.
Available Nationwide
Both the new drinks and commemorative merchandise are available for a limited time only at participating Second Cup locations across Canada, while supplies last.
