Advance Voting Opens This Weekend for Scarborough-Rouge Park By-Election

Toronto, ON — Eligible voters in Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park will have their first chance to cast a ballot in the upcoming by-election as advance voting opens this weekend.

On Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, residents can vote from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at two locations:

  • Malvern Recreation Centre, 30 Sewells Rd.

  • Heron Park Community Recreation Centre, 292 Manse Rd.

The by-election will decide the next councillor for Scarborough-Rouge Park, following the vacancy in Ward 25.

Election Day: September 29

Election day is set for Monday, September 29, when 37 voting places across the ward will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Unlike advance voting, eligible residents must vote at their assigned voting place, which can be confirmed on the City’s MyVote webpage (www.toronto.ca/myvote).

Who Can Vote

To cast a ballot, voters must be:

  • A Canadian citizen;

  • At least 18 years old;

  • A resident of Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park; or a non-resident who, along with their spouse, owns or rents property in the ward;

  • Not otherwise prohibited from voting by law.

Each eligible voter can vote only once, regardless of the number of properties owned or rented.

Voters must bring identification showing their name and qualifying address in Ward 25. While the Voter Information Card (VIC) is not valid ID, bringing it will help speed up the voting process.

Voters’ List and Updates

Residents can check, add, or update their information on the voters’ list at www.toronto.ca/myvote or by calling 311. Updates must be made by 7 p.m. on September 21 to appear on the printed list for election day. Eligible voters not on the list may still register in person with acceptable identification during advance voting or on election day.

Mail-In Voting

Mail-in voting is available, with completed packages due by Tuesday, September 23 at noon. Packages can be mailed using the prepaid envelope provided or dropped off at secure boxes at:

  • Malvern Recreation Centre (30 Sewells Rd.)

  • Heron Park Community Recreation Centre (292 Manse Rd.)

Voters can track the status of their mail-in ballot using their confirmation code. If postal service disruptions occur, Toronto Elections will provide alternate options.

Accessibility and Voting Options

To ensure accessibility, both advance voting sites will have Voter Assist Terminals, offering features such as touchscreens, audio support, braille keypads, sip/puff devices, and font/contrast adjustments.

Voters who require a terminal not available at their assigned location on election day may request a transfer by calling 311.

Additionally, residents unable to vote in person may appoint a proxy voter. Completed proxy forms must be certified by the City Clerk before September 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Toronto Elections encourages residents of Scarborough-Rouge Park to plan ahead, confirm their voting place, and participate in the democratic process.
