Saturday Farmers’ Market Returns to Historic St. Lawrence Market North
TORONTO — After nearly a decade away, the Saturday Farmers’ Market has officially returned to its original home at the newly redeveloped St. Lawrence Market North building. Mayor Olivia Chow and Councillor Chris Moise (Toronto Centre) were on hand this morning to mark the occasion and welcome farmers and shoppers back to the revitalized space.
The North Market, first established in 1803, has long been a cornerstone of Toronto’s market culture. With today’s relaunch, the city celebrates both its rich history and the modernization of a key community hub. The redeveloped building is now equipped with modern amenities that improve accessibility while preserving its historical charm.
“This market has always been about community,” said Mayor Chow in a statement. “It’s exciting to see vendors and residents reconnect in this beautiful new space, and it’s more important than ever to support our local farmers and businesses.”

The five-story building includes a ground-floor Market Hall, four levels of underground parking, and upper levels dedicated to courtrooms and administrative offices. Designed to be a year-round venue for events, exhibitions, and civic programming, the building is expected to drive social and economic growth in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood.
Since 2015, the Saturday market operated temporarily at 125 The Esplanade during construction. With the reopening of the North Market, the farmers’ market now has a permanent home once again, just in time for spring.
“The new St. Lawrence Market North building brings fresh life to the historic St. Lawrence Market District,” said Councillor Moise. “The return of the Saturday Farmers’ Market reaffirms our commitment to supporting local vendors and creating vibrant public spaces.”
The return also ties into the City’s “Love Local” campaign, which urges residents to shop locally and reinvest in their communities. City officials hope the new facility will boost tourism while giving small businesses a reliable platform to thrive.
A grand opening celebration for the community is scheduled for Saturday, May 10. Event details will be announced soon at www.stlawrencemarket.com.
The adjacent St. Lawrence Market South building remains open six days a week, continuing to offer a wide selection of local goods and produce.
