Sam Rogers Appointed Commissioner of Transportation and Works for Mississauga
Mississauga, ON – Following a rigorous recruitment process, the City of Mississauga has named Sam Rogers as its new Commissioner of Transportation and Works. Rogers, who had been serving as Acting Commissioner since June 2024, officially steps into the role effective immediately.
Rogers brings nearly a decade of experience within Mississauga’s municipal operations, having first joined the city in 2015 as Manager of Security Services. Over the years, he has held several leadership roles, including Interim Director of Transit Operations and Director of Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Services. His career prior to joining the City includes senior roles with Scotiabank and the Canadian Armed Forces, highlighting a blend of public and private sector expertise.
In his new position, Rogers will oversee key divisions such as Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Services, Works Operations and Maintenance, Transit, the Rapid Transit Program Office, and Traffic Management and Municipal Parking. These departments deliver essential services to Mississauga’s residents and businesses, including transit operations, winter maintenance, road safety, and capital construction projects.
City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer Geoff Wright expressed his confidence in Rogers’ leadership. “Sam is the right person to lead this department. His leadership experience within the City and within the private sector have provided him the skills and experience necessary to move Mississauga forward,” said Wright. “Sam has demonstrated his ability to deliver results, work collaboratively with the community, and ensure capital projects are built on time and on budget.”
Rogers has been instrumental in advancing key initiatives such as stormwater management, flood mitigation, micromobility programs, municipal parking enhancements, and transit improvements. Under his leadership, the city has seen significant progress in building capital projects that support a growing population and economy.
“I’m excited to take on this important role at this time in the City’s history,” said Rogers. “Mississauga is a vibrant community with so much potential. I look forward to working with Council and staff to make critical investments in the infrastructure and services that keep residents and businesses moving and safe.”
Rogers holds an Executive MBA from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bishop’s University.
As Mississauga continues to expand and modernize its infrastructure, Rogers’ leadership aims to ensure the city remains a leader in innovation and service delivery for its residents and businesses.
