Red Snow Collective Brings Poignant New Play ‘Carried by the River’ to Tarragon Extraspace

Toronto – Red Snow Collective is set to present Carried by the River (流源夢), a deeply moving theatrical production by playwright Diana Tso, directed by William Yong. Running from March 8 to March 23, 2025, at Tarragon Extraspace, this original work promises audiences a powerful exploration of myth, memory, and self-discovery.

Carried by the River follows the journey of Kai, a young Asian woman raised in Canada who, after the passing of her mother, embarks on a transformative voyage to China. Guided by spirit animals and encounters with three fateful women, she unravels long-buried truths about her heritage, grief, and personal identity. Through lyrical storytelling, the play seamlessly weaves together elements of mythology and reality, offering a poignant meditation on intergenerational ties and the search for belonging.

A Timely Story for International Women’s Day

The production opens on March 8, 2025—International Women’s Day—underscoring its themes of resilience, motherhood, and the enduring strength of women’s narratives. Diana Tso, an accomplished playwright and storyteller, draws from personal and historical inspirations, including China’s one-child policy and the voices of lost daughters, to craft a narrative that highlights the resilience of women and the stories that shape generations.

“With its meaningful integration of movement, folklore, and emotional depth, Carried by the River is a testament to the strength of women and the stories that connect us across continents,” Red Snow Collective stated in a release.
