Rabba Partners with Food Banks Mississauga to Help Families in Need This Holiday Season

Mississauga – In a heartwarming show of support this holiday season, Rabba Fine Foods, in collaboration with its partners, has donated over 2,500 pounds of food to Food Banks Mississauga to aid families facing food insecurity.

The contribution, which includes plant-based beverages, yogurt, holiday treats, flour, and fresh produce, is part of Rabba’s Rabba Roots Community Giving Program. This initiative reflects Rabba’s longstanding tradition of helping those in need and its commitment to promoting access to nutritious foods in the communities it serves.

“With food insecurity on the rise, we hope this donation is helpful and a sign of hope for families who are struggling,” said Rima Rabba, head of the Rabba Roots Community Program. “We are grateful to our partners who share a commitment to the diverse communities we serve.”

The need for food support in Mississauga is greater than ever. Food Banks Mississauga, which served over 56,000 individuals last year — or 1 in 13 residents — has reported a sharp 42% increase in children requiring assistance, with kids now comprising nearly 30% of food bank visitors.

The City of Mississauga recently declared food insecurity an emergency, highlighting the growing crisis. Daisy Yiu, Director of Marketing & Communications at Food Banks Mississauga, expressed gratitude for Rabba’s continued support:

“With the recent declaration of food insecurity as an emergency by the City of Mississauga, we need the support of our community more than ever this holiday season as we work to provide food support to neighbours in need across the city,” said Yiu. “Thank you to Rabba and its partners for stepping up during this time of crisis.”

Rabba, a family-run grocer serving the GTA since 1967, has been a dedicated supporter of Food Banks Mississauga for over 15 years. The Rabba Roots Community Giving Program backs a range of projects, from food banks and homeless shelters to hospitals and emergency services, underlining Rabba’s commitment to strengthening community ties.

This year’s initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Rabba and its partners, including Danone Canada. Wayne Barker, Director of Sales – Impulse at Danone Canada, emphasized the shared mission of ensuring families have access to nutritious meals:

“It is an honour to once again partner with Rabba in this special initiative,” said Barker. “Like Rabba, we are committed to the Mississauga community and appreciate the work of Food Banks Mississauga. Our mission at Danone is to bring health through food to as many people as possible, so we believe that every family should be able to have nutritious, wholesome food on the table — especially at this time of year.”

As food insecurity continues to impact families across the GTA, efforts like Rabba’s holiday donation serve as a beacon of hope and a call to action for others to join in supporting those in need.
