Rabba Fine Foods Delivers Largest Easter Donation to Support Food Banks Mississauga

Mississauga grocer partners with Burnbrae Farms, Maple Leaf Foods, and Danone to tackle rising food insecurity

MISSISSAUGA — Amid a growing food insecurity crisis, Rabba Fine Foods has delivered its most generous Easter season donation to date to Food Banks Mississauga. Through its Rabba Roots Community Giving Program, the Mississauga-based grocer partnered with Burnbrae Farms, Maple Leaf Foods, and Danone to donate a range of nutritious food items aimed at supporting local families in need.

The donation included 320 Carver’s hams, 5,400 eggs, two full pallets of almond and cashew milk, and nearly 200 pounds of fresh fruit.

“It’s an absolute honour to be able to work with our partners to support the work of Food Banks Mississauga in alleviating some of the pressures faced by families in our community,” said Rima Rabba, who leads the Rabba Roots initiative.

Food Banks Mississauga has seen a sharp rise in demand, with 1 in 13 Mississauga residents—over 56,000 people—relying on its services in the past year. Children account for 28% of those served, underscoring the urgent need for support.

“After Mississauga saw the fastest growing rate of food bank use in the province in 2024, we need the support of our community more than ever,” said Daisy Yiu, Director of Marketing & Communications at Food Banks Mississauga. “The cost of living continues to soar, and we’re grateful to Rabba for its donation to support neighbours living with food insecurity during our Spring Drive.”

Corporate partners praised the collaboration, which they say reflects a shared commitment to community well-being.

“Partnering with Rabba Roots allows us to make a meaningful impact by providing fresh, nutritious eggs to those who need them most,” said Iain McRuvie of Burnbrae Farms.

Stephen Carroll of Maple Leaf Foods echoed the sentiment: “By coming together, we can make a greater impact.”

Steve Aucoin of Danone Canada added, “This collaboration aligns with our mission of bringing health through food to as many people as possible.”

The donation comes at a critical time for local food banks, which continue to face uncertainty amid high inflation, housing pressures, and stagnant wages.
