PWHL to Air First U.S. National Broadcast as New York Sirens Face Montréal Victoire

PWHL first U.S. national broadcast set for Sirens vs Victoire on March 28

DETROIT — The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) will reach a major milestone later this month as the league prepares for its first-ever national linear television broadcast in the United States.

The PWHL Takeover Tour™ matchup between the New York Sirens and the Montréal Victoire will air nationally on ION Television on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. ET, live from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

The broadcast is the result of a partnership between Ally Financial, Scripps Sports and the PWHL, marking a significant step in expanding the visibility of professional women’s hockey across North America.

A Major Milestone for Women’s Hockey

Through ION’s national distribution — available free over-the-air, through pay television providers, connected TV platforms and free ad-supported streaming services — the broadcast will be accessible to more than 126 million households across the United States.

League officials say the national telecast represents an important moment in the PWHL’s continued growth.

“This first-ever national broadcast is a truly historic moment for our league,” said Amy Scheer, Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the PWHL. “With partners like Ally Financial and Scripps Sports, we’re introducing more people to our fast-paced and exciting game than ever before.”

The game is part of the league’s 16-game Takeover Tour, a series designed to bring PWHL games to new markets and expand the league’s fan base across North America.

Momentum Continues for the PWHL

Now in its third season, the PWHL continues to experience rapid growth. League attendance is up 20 per cent year over year, and the league is approaching two million total fans since launch.

Interest in the sport has also been boosted by the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, where 61 PWHL players competed and collectively won 41 medals, including a dramatic gold medal victory for Team USA over Canada.

The league currently features eight teams: Boston, Minnesota, Montréal, New York, Ottawa, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.

Ally Expands Investment in Women’s Sports

The historic broadcast will be presented by Ally Financial, which has made major investments in women’s sports as part of its 50/50 media equity pledge, a commitment to equal media investment in men’s and women’s sports.

The company has previously supported several major initiatives across women’s sports, including:

  • Moving the National Women’s Soccer League Championship to primetime broadcast in 2022

  • Launching the Ally Tipoff women’s college basketball event in 2023

  • Helping elevate the prize purse for the U.S. Women’s Open in golf in 2024

  • Becoming a founding partner of the new Unrivaled 3-on-3 women’s basketball league in 2025

Andrea Brimmer, Chief Marketing and Public Relations Officer at Ally, said the broadcast reflects the company’s broader commitment to expanding opportunities for women’s sports.

“When you give women’s sports the platform they deserve, fans show up, players show out, and the entire ecosystem benefits,” Brimmer said.

Scripps Sports Expanding Women’s Sports Coverage

The broadcast also aligns with the strategy of Scripps Sports and its ION network to expand access to women’s professional sports programming.

ION already broadcasts weekly national games for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), along with studio programming supporting both leagues.

Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports, said the network is committed to helping grow the fan base for women’s sports.

“Fan interest in women’s hockey is at an all-time high,” Lawlor said. “We’re thrilled to partner with the PWHL and Ally Financial on this milestone event and bring the excitement of the league to a national audience.”

Expanding the Reach of the Game

The March 28 broadcast represents a significant opportunity for the PWHL to introduce new audiences to professional women’s hockey, particularly in the United States.

As the league continues expanding its reach through national broadcasts, touring events and strong international competition, the PWHL is positioning itself as one of the fastest-growing leagues in professional sports.
