Prime Video Unveils Major Canadian Original Slate at 2026 Amazon Upfront
Prime Video Canada Originals Expand in 2026
TORONTO — Prime Video has announced an expanded slate of Canadian original programming during its 2026 Amazon Upfront presentation, unveiling a mix of hockey docuseries, survival competitions, true crime documentaries, and French-language productions set to debut over the next year.
The new lineup includes seven Canadian Prime Original series, with projects featuring Canadian stars such as Michael Bublé, Drew Scott, and Scott McGillivray.
Amazon executives said the expanded slate reflects growing investment in Canadian storytelling while positioning Prime Video as a major destination for domestic and global entertainment content.
“Our Prime Originals slate represents exactly the kind of stories Prime Video wants to tell — bold, surprising, and unmistakably Canadian,” said Brent Haynes, Head of International Originals, Canada, Amazon MGM Studios.
Hockey, Survival and True Crime Lead New Canadian Projects
Among the headline projects is Hometown Giants, a six-episode hockey docuseries following the lives of junior hockey players within the Vancouver Giants organization.
The series features Bublé and Scott as part-owners of the WHL franchise while documenting the pressures and sacrifices young athletes face pursuing NHL careers.
Prime Video also announced Surrender (working title), an outdoor survival competition series hosted and executive produced by McGillivray. The series places contestants in remote Canadian wilderness settings where unpredictable twists and moral dilemmas shape the competition.
Meanwhile, true crime programming remains part of the streaming platform’s strategy with The Pig Farm Killer: Robert Pickton (working title), a three-part documentary examining the case of convicted serial killer Robert Pickton and the investigation surrounding disappearances from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The documentary will include archival material and new interviews exploring how Pickton evaded capture for years.
French-Language Productions Expand Prime Video Canada
Prime Video also confirmed several new French-language productions, including the reality competition series Complètement dans le champ (Heels in the Hay), which follows urban content creators adapting to rural life challenges while competing for a cash prize.
Another French-language documentary, Opération déception (Operation Deception), investigates the controversial 1989 Thailand death row case involving Quebec student Alain Olivier.
The streaming service also announced the return of comedy competition series LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier? for a fifth season, alongside a special Halloween-themed edition hosted by Patrick Huard.
‘Young Farts Trailer Parts’ Premieres This Summer
Prime Video also debuted trailers for the upcoming unscripted comedy-reality series Young Farts Trailer Parts, executive produced by Jacob Tierney.
Premiering globally July 17, the Alberta-set series follows brothers Jagger and Dawson Glowatsky as they grow a business buying and salvaging used RVs while documenting their chaotic entrepreneurial adventures.
The brothers previously built a large following online through viral TikTok videos.
Prime Video Expands Sports and Global Franchise Offerings
The Canadian announcements were made alongside updates on Prime Video’s expanding sports and international entertainment lineup.
Prime Video confirmed continued investment in live sports programming, including the launch of NBA coverage in Canada beginning this October as part of an 11-year global agreement.
The streaming platform also continues carrying PWHL and WNBA games in Canada.
Globally, Prime Video previewed upcoming titles including God of War, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, Fallout Season 3, Reacher Season 5, and the Legally Blonde prequel series Elle.
Executives said the combination of Canadian originals, global franchises, live sports, and subscription add-ons continues shaping Prime Video into a “one-stop entertainment destination” for Canadian audiences.
