Trudeau and Zelenskyy Focus on Ukraine’s Defense and Peace Efforts
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO Summit. Trudeau reiterated Canada’s condemnation of Russia’s attacks on civilians, including the recent attack on Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv. Trudeau announced an additional $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine and support for F-16 training for Ukrainian pilots. The leaders discussed Ukraine’s peace efforts and the recent Summit on Peace in Ukraine in Lucerne, emphasizing the need for continued international support and collaboration.
Trudeau and Luxon Strengthen Canada-New Zealand Relations
In a separate meeting, Trudeau met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. They discussed the importance of New Zealand as a partner to Canada and NATO, and cooperation in addressing global crises, including the situation in the Middle East. The leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and discussed advancing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the rules-based international order and addressing common challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

Trudeau and Starmer Discuss Global Security and Economic Growth
Trudeau also met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, where they focused on deepening national security partnerships, fighting climate change, and improving economic growth. They discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, supporting an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian assistance. Both leaders reiterated their solidarity with Ukraine and emphasized the importance of the NATO Alliance in upholding global peace and security.
Trudeau and Rinkēvičs Highlight Euro-Atlantic Security
In his meeting with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to Euro-Atlantic security through Operation REASSURANCE. They discussed support for Ukraine and the return of Ukrainian children unlawfully deported by Russia. Trudeau and Rinkēvičs highlighted the importance of the NATO Alliance and agreed to remain in regular contact.
Trudeau and Kallas Focus on Cyber Resilience and Sanctions
Lastly, Trudeau met with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. They welcomed the upgrade of Canada’s diplomatic office in Estonia to a full embassy. The leaders discussed support for Ukraine, cyber resilience, and the seizure of sanctioned Russian assets. Trudeau congratulated Kallas on her nomination as the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. They emphasized the importance of NATO in global peace and security and agreed to maintain close contact.
