Prime Minister Appoints Dr. Wassim Salamoun as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island

Ottawa, Ontario – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the appointment of Dr. Wassim Salamoun as the new Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.). Dr. Salamoun, a well-respected figure in the P.E.I. health care community, takes over from the Honourable Antoinette Perry.

Dr. Wassim Salamoun has had a distinguished career in P.E.I., serving as a surgeon and Medical Director for the province’s western region. His extensive contributions to the health care system have been widely recognized, earning him accolades such as the Dr. Tom Moore Award from Prince County Hospital and the Putting Patients First Award from the Medical Society of P.E.I.

In a statement, Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his confidence in Dr. Salamoun’s ability to serve the people of P.E.I. with dedication. “Dr. Salamoun has dedicated his life to the well-being of his community. I am confident that he will continue to serve the people of Prince Edward Island with enthusiasm, selflessness, and dedication,” Trudeau said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry, thanking her for her service to both P.E.I. and Canada.

Dr. Salamoun’s appointment is anticipated to bring continued commitment and leadership to the role, reflecting his longstanding dedication to public service and community health.
