Prime Minister Announces Senior Public Service Appointments and Retirement

Ottawa, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced significant changes in the senior ranks of Canada’s public service, including new appointments and a notable retirement.

Paul Halucha, currently serving as Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Clean Growth) in the Privy Council Office and Deputy Minister of Public Lands and Housing, has been named Deputy Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. His appointment will take effect on December 31, 2024.

Jeffery Hutchinson, who has been Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet overseeing the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference, will transition to the role of Associate Deputy Minister of Public Safety (Emergency Management) starting December 9, 2024.

Daniel Mills, currently the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for Enterprise IT Procurement and Corporate Services at Shared Services Canada, will assume the role of Associate Deputy Minister of Public Safety on December 2, 2024.

The announcement also highlighted the upcoming retirement of Kelly Gillis, the current Deputy Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. Prime Minister Trudeau commended Gillis for her dedication and years of service to Canadians, wishing her well in her future endeavors.

These appointments reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical issues such as housing, infrastructure, and public safety while ensuring continuity and expertise in senior public service roles.
