Pretty in Pink: Cherry Blossoms Set to Bloom at Mississauga’s Kariya Park
MISSISSAUGA – Kariya Park is about to transform into one of the GTA’s most Instagram-worthy destinations this spring, as nearly 80 Japanese cherry blossom trees prepare to bloom in the coming weeks.
Located in the heart of downtown Mississauga, the tranquil garden is a tribute to the city’s sister-city relationship with Kariya, Japan. The park features authentic Japanese design elements—from hand-carved sculptures and a zig-zag boardwalk to a duck pond, waterfall, and the ceremonial Friendship Bell. But it’s the cherry blossoms that steal the spotlight each spring, painting the park in breathtaking shades of pink and white.
Peak bloom is expected in early May, once daily temperatures consistently reach 15°C for about a week. Weather permitting, the bloom will last up to two weeks—though heavy winds or rain may shorten the spectacle. The City of Mississauga recommends following @saugaparksrec and @citymississauga on X for real-time bloom updates.
Visitors are encouraged to walk through the park’s serene paths, take photos, and enjoy the blossoms respectfully. Dogs are not permitted, and visitors are asked to avoid climbing the trees or picking branches. Professional photography sessions require a permit.
Open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Kariya Park is accessible by MiWay transit or a short walk from Square One. Paid parking is available on Kariya Drive and nearby municipal lots.
Can’t make it to Kariya Park? Other Mississauga spots to catch cherry blossoms include Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens, St. Lawrence Park, and Mississauga Valley.
