Premier Ford Marks Start of 2026 With Message on Economic Resilience and Growth

Premier Doug Ford’s New Year greetings outline Ontario’s economic priorities and infrastructure plans for 2026

TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford issued a New Year’s message on January 1, 2026, extending well wishes to Ontarians and outlining the provincial government’s priorities for the year ahead.

In his statement, Ford wished residents a “happy, safe and prosperous” new year, while reflecting on what he described as a challenging but unifying period for the province and the country.

“This past year brought many challenges, but it also saw our province and country come together like never before in support of our shared values and home,” Ford said.

The Premier pointed to economic pressures, including tariffs and broader uncertainty, while highlighting progress made in reducing internal trade barriers within Canada. He also referenced investments in infrastructure and resource development, noting that work on roads to Ontario’s Ring of Fire is expected to begin by June 2026.

Looking ahead, Ford said his government will continue its plan to protect Ontario workers and families by strengthening economic competitiveness and resilience. He emphasized ongoing investments in highways, transit, housing, schools and hospitals, alongside efforts to keep people employed and address the needs of a growing population.

The Premier also reiterated the government’s commitment to health care and education, including its goal of connecting all Ontarians to primary care by 2029. He said affordability will remain a central focus as the province moves into the new year.

“On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I wish everyone across the province all the very best in 2026,” Ford said.

The statement was released by the Premier’s Office on January 1.
