Pita Pit Marks 30 Years of Fresh Thinking and Healthy Eating

Canadian-born fast-casual brand celebrates milestone with $100,000 in prizes

TORONTO – Pita Pit is celebrating a major milestone in 2025: 30 years of redefining fast-casual dining in Canada. The Kingston-born brand, known for its customizable pitas and commitment to healthier eating, has grown from a single storefront in 1995 to a global franchise with over 240 Canadian locations and an international footprint.

To mark the anniversary, the company has launched a Peel & Win contest running from April 15 to May 14, offering more than $100,000 in prizes to thank customers and franchisees. The initiative is one of several promotions being rolled out during the brand’s month-long celebration.

“Pita Pit is a resilient and innovative Canadian brand that has stood the test of time thanks to the passion of our franchisees, the loyalty of our guests, and the strength of our community partnerships,” said Peter Mammas, President and CEO of Foodtastic, Pita Pit’s parent company.

Pita Pit’s menu has evolved significantly over the last three decades, expanding beyond its signature pita wraps to include salads, rice bowls, smoothies, gluten-free options, and catering services. Despite these additions, the brand’s “build-your-own pita” format remains at the heart of its identity.

The company continues to prioritize community impact and strong local connections, a focus that has been central to its growth. “We’ve always believed in doing more than just serving great food,” said Chris Cann, Brand Leader at Pita Pit. “Whether supporting local initiatives or giving back through national programs, our goal has always been to make a real difference in the communities we call home.”

Legacy partnerships with companies like Sysco, Coca-Cola, and Unilever have supported Pita Pit’s steady expansion, which now falls under the growing portfolio of Foodtastic—one of Canada’s largest restaurant franchisors with over 1,200 locations nationwide.

Founded on July 21, 1995, by John Sotiriadis and Nelson Lang, the first Pita Pit opened in Kingston, Ontario. A photo from that summer shows the duo in front of the original location, a humble start that launched one of Canada’s most enduring fast-casual success stories.
