Ontario Breaks Ground on 224-Bed Long-Term Care Home in Stoney Creek

New Pine Villa Care Centre project signals major step forward in province’s plan to modernize long-term care

Stoney Creek, Ontario — The Ontario government has officially broken ground on a new 224-bed long-term care home in Stoney Creek, marking a key milestone in its province-wide push to expand and modernize elder care infrastructure.

The redevelopment of the Pine Villa Care Centre, licensed to Kindera™ Living Care Centres II GP Inc., is now underway and is expected to welcome its first residents in 2027. The four-storey facility will feature seven Resident Home Areas (RHAs) — each designed to provide an intimate, home-like environment for residents. These RHAs will include dedicated dining rooms, lounges, activity spaces, and private or semi-private bedrooms to better support both quality of care and quality of life.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Stoney Creek,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “When construction is complete, 224 residents will have a modern, comfortable place to call home.”

The new Pine Villa will offer a broad range of programs and amenities aimed at supporting holistic care for residents. Features will include fitness programs, music therapy, horticulture, volunteer opportunities, pet therapy, access to library services, and multi-faith services — all designed to encourage community engagement and support mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

The project received a Construction Funding Subsidy top-up and is part of Ontario’s plan to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds province-wide, as outlined in the 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario.

“This redevelopment is a necessary step towards ensuring that our aging community members in Hamilton East ― Stoney Creek have more socially engaging, safe, and convenient options to call home,” said local MPP Neil Lumsden. “I am excited for all of the different recreational programs and health service offerings that Pine Villa will provide to our seniors and the hundreds of new jobs that will be created.”

To date, 147 projects totaling 23,977 new and redeveloped long-term care beds are either completed, under construction, or approved for construction across Ontario. The government is also preparing to launch a new construction funding program to provide additional flexibility and support for operators — especially in high-need urban areas like Hamilton.

Kindera™ CEO Bill Dillane called the groundbreaking “a significant milestone,” adding, “We are proud and excited to expand our care and services to accommodate 224 residents within a new, modern, person-centred home.”

The Pine Villa redevelopment is part of the broader provincial plan under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, which focuses on four key pillars: improving staffing and care, enhancing quality and enforcement, building modern and safe facilities, and ensuring faster access to services for seniors.
