Ontario Volunteer Service Awards Celebrate Outstanding Community Contributions

Today, the province of Ontario shines a spotlight on the remarkable efforts of its volunteers, honoring 6,650 community leaders with the prestigious 2024 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. From youth to adults, these dedicated individuals have demonstrated unwavering commitment and generosity, embodying the spirit of community service.

The annual awards, administered by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, recognize volunteers who have made significant contributions to a wide array of organizations, including non-profits, schools, hospitals, and community centers. Their efforts span across various causes, from supporting vulnerable populations to strengthening cultural and recreational initiatives.

Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Michael Ford, expressed gratitude for the vital role volunteers play in Ontario communities. “Volunteers are the backbone of Ontario communities,” he remarked. “Through the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards, we honor the outstanding volunteers who touch our lives and recognize their ongoing dedication and service to the well-being of their communities and our province.”

This year’s recipients, totaling 6,650 individuals, will be feted at 45 local award recognition ceremonies held across the province from April to July 2024. Among them are 642 youth and 6,008 adults, whose combined efforts have impacted 1,450 organizations. Their tireless work as board members, fundraisers, mentors, and advocates has left an indelible mark on the fabric of Ontario society.

Since its inception in 1986, the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards have celebrated the contributions of over 250,000 volunteers. This longstanding tradition reflects the enduring appreciation for the invaluable role volunteers play in fostering strong, connected communities.

For those interested in participating in future awards, nominations can be submitted via the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards webpage. The deadline for nominations is November 15 each year.

As we celebrate the 2024 recipients, let us collectively express our gratitude to all volunteers who generously give their time, talents, and hearts to make Ontario a better place for all.
