Ontario Opens New 160-Bed Seniors Living Campus in Brantford

Ontario seniors living campus in Brantford opens with a new 160-bed long-term care home offering modern RHAs and integrated supports for older adults.

BRANTFORD — Ontario is marking the opening of Oakwood Commons Community, a new 160-bed long-term care home built within a multi-service Seniors Living Campus designed to provide older adults with a full continuum of care in one location. The new home replaces Fox Ridge Care Community and adds a total of 70 new beds and 90 upgraded beds to meet growing local demand.

Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care Dawn Gallagher Murphy said the project represents a major step forward in expanding modern, high-quality long-term care across the province. In the official release, she noted that Oakwood Commons offers residents “a safe and modern place to call home with nearby access to other supports for seniors within a campus of care.”

A New Model for Integrated Seniors Care

The new Seniors Living Campus includes both Oakwood Commons Community and Brants Landing Retirement Living, bringing together retirement living, long-term care, dementia supports and specialized health services on one site. The integrated model is intended to streamline transitions, support couples with differing care needs, and offer residents greater continuity as their health circumstances evolve.

Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho said the campus will play an important role in protecting seniors’ health and well-being, emphasizing its comprehensive supports and modern infrastructure.

Designed for Comfort, Dignity and Daily Living

Oakwood Commons Community is organized into five resident home areas (RHAs), each accommodating up to 32 residents and creating a smaller, community-oriented atmosphere. Each RHA includes:

  • Dedicated dining and activity spaces

  • Lounges and personal living areas

  • Bedrooms designed for privacy and safety

Additional features in the new home include:

  • Rehab and therapy rooms

  • Country kitchen and lounge

  • Beauty salon

  • Tuck shop

  • Activity room

  • Outdoor terrace and two landscaped courtyards

The home welcomed its first residents in October 2025.

Part of Ontario’s 58,000-Bed Construction Commitment

The Brantford project is one of many supported through the province’s long-term care construction framework, including the former construction funding subsidy top-up. As of December 2025, Ontario has 151 projects representing 24,613 new and redeveloped beds completed, under construction or approved to begin construction.

The province has also launched the 2025 Long-Term Care Home Capital Funding Policy and Capital Funding Program (CFP), which introduces a more flexible funding model to address regional construction costs and support diverse operators. Officials say these measures have contributed to the largest single-year expansion of long-term care construction in Ontario history.

Community and Sector Support

Local MPP Will Bouma and sector partners, including Sienna Senior Living, praised the government’s investments and the benefits of campus-style care for residents, families and the broader Brantford community.

Sienna Senior Living CEO Nitin Jain noted that the integrated campus model will help spouses with different care needs remain close and enable smoother transitions from retirement living to long-term care.

Ontario’s long-term care modernization strategy is built on four pillars: increasing staffing, strengthening quality and enforcement, building modern homes, and improving access to connected health services.
