Ontario Breaks Ground on 22-Bed Long-Term Care Expansion at Belvedere Heights in Parry Sound
PARRY SOUND — Construction has officially begun on a 22-bed expansion at Belvedere Heights, adding to the existing 101 long-term care beds and enhancing seniors’ care capacity in the Parry Sound community. The project is being supported by the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, part of the province’s commitment to modernize long-term care and provide seniors with safe, comfortable, and community-connected homes.
“This expansion is great news for residents of Parry Sound,” said John Jordan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “When construction is complete, 22 additional residents will have a safe and modern place to call home.”
Community-Focused Model of Care
Belvedere Heights is known for its Eden Alternative Model of Care, emphasizing resident engagement, purposeful living, and intimate community spaces that promote social interaction. The newly expanded wing is expected to open its doors to residents in winter 2027.
“Belvedere is a wonderful, warm, and caring home, and this expansion will provide much-needed accommodation for our seniors,” said Pamela Wing, Chair of the Belvedere Heights Board of Management.
Supporting Local Families and Seniors
The project will help seniors from across West Parry Sound and McMurrich Monteith remain closer to home, reducing the strain on families seeking care options for their loved ones.
“The addition of 22 beds will help those who need long-term care services remain closer to home,” said MPP Graydon Smith, Parry Sound—Muskoka.
Part of Ontario’s Broader Seniors’ Care Commitment
The expansion is part of the Ford government’s plan to create 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds by 2029, guided by four pillars:
-
Staffing and care.
-
Quality and enforcement.
-
Building modern, safe, and comfortable homes.
-
Connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to services.
As of April 2025, Ontario has 147 projects completed, under construction, or approved, representing 23,977 new and redeveloped beds.
Belvedere Heights will continue to be operated by the Board of Management for the District of Parry Sound West.
