Ontario Invests $82M to Modernize Beaches and Campgrounds Along the St. Lawrence Corridor
Revitalization to improve environmental infrastructure, boost tourism, and create jobs in Eastern Ontario
LONG SAULT, ONTARIO — The Ontario government is committing more than $82 million over four years to upgrade beaches, campgrounds, and key visitor facilities along the St. Lawrence River, including a major revitalization of Mille Roches Beach and Campground. The announcement marks a significant investment in the future of tourism and environmental infrastructure in Eastern Ontario.
The funding supports the St. Lawrence Parks Commission’s multi-year revitalization initiative aimed at modernizing washrooms, septic systems, and drinking water connections throughout the region’s parks and campgrounds. Mille Roches Beach—known for its vast sandy shoreline and scenic setting on the Long Sault Parkway—will receive new canteen and washroom facilities, enhanced environmental protections, and critical infrastructure updates.
“This investment ensures the St. Lawrence Parks Commission can provide world-class visitor experiences while protecting the region’s natural beauty,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “We’re supporting the jobs, communities, and experiences that celebrate Ontario’s heritage and environment.”
Construction will connect SLPC facilities to the municipal water and wastewater systems of South Stormont and South Dundas—marking the first major infrastructure overhaul of its kind in over 60 years. The move is expected to lower long-term operational costs, protect surrounding ecosystems, and ensure safe, clean services for campers and beachgoers.
Support Across the Region
Elected officials across the region praised the investment. “This is a landmark investment in the future of our region’s tourism and environment,” said Jason Broad, Mayor of South Dundas. “It supports both the health of our communities and the sustainability of our tourism economy.”
Stormont–Dundas–South Glengarry MPP Nolan Quinn emphasized the local impact: “St. Lawrence Parks are a treasured part of our community. This funding ensures our beaches, campgrounds, and Upper Canada Village will remain destinations for families for years to come.”
